Handi-Riders serves individuals with physical, emotional, and mental disabilities. Some disabilities are mild, while others are quite severe.
Each student is assessed prior to starting. At the assessment we determine appropriateness
for the program, as well as develop goals for those we believe are appropriate
for our program.
All students must have a physician’s signature prior to
riding. Additionally, those students
seeing a physical and/or occupational therapist will have forms completed by
the appropriate professional(s). All
forms are completed annually.
There are some conditions that may be a contraindication for
riding. This does not mean a rider
cannot ride, but rather it means the individual with this condition must be
assessed thoroughly. See the Contraindications for a list of
the possible contraindications.
We maintain a waiting list at all times. If you are interested in being on this waiting list, please fill out the referral form (.pdf) and mail it to us. Riders are usually taken on first come basis, but if we have room for someone in a lesson and the first person on the list is not appropriate for that lesson, we will go down the list until we find someone that is appropriate for that particular lesson.
